Google rises again

Nov 16 2010

Oct 18, 2015

If I was a betting man, I’d say we will see this headline in our lifetime. As of lately Google’s invincibility has been questioned. Macs are worshiped, IE7 is here, phone providers are calling shots. Bing and Apple team up against Google, it’s looking like the giant has some competitors…….Silently Google gains market share with it’s “Google chrome” web browser, now they have released plans on creating a Google computer based on the Chrome browser, with speed and efficiency in mind.
“We want Chrome OS to be blazing fast,” said Sundar Pichai, Google’s vice president of product management. “We want it to be like a TV – turn it on and it’s booted up.

They will be taking advantage of “cloud computing” technology, this works nowadays because 99% of the time we use out computer we are online unlike the days of dial-up. Cloud computing stores data online, taking advantage of free space, making your system much less burdened and much faster.

If I were Google I’d make $375 machines only in a cool chrome color that focused on the business professional, not the artist, or producer. I would make something with a catchy look that appealed to “everyman”. We already know that chrome is wicked fast, so with their brains how fast do you think they could get their operating system?

With google’s reputation, and marketing savvy alone it’s a bet these units will move, is their room for 3?

If you haven’t tried Google chrome your really missing out, here is a Free link.

WordPress for your business website?

Sep 28 2010

Yep, you heard it here!..Dreamweaver is dying!

I own a small business, and when I first started thinking of building my own website I went out and bought Adobe Dreamweaver
, It’s a great program, but it also costs an arm and a leg.

After spending countless hours learning how to use Adobe Dreamweaver
, I finally got my site up and running, and it was quite nice.  In the meantime I started blogging for fun, about completely different subjects, like my blog BODYSHRINE, and also used wordpress for my Halloween costume website SPOOOOKY

I soon realized that I was putting these sites up in a few hours, start to finish, and actually making some revenue from them also!

This got me thinking…….

Why the H#%% did I spend $300 on Dreamweaver
?

well, you get the point, I’m not trying to sell you anything, actually quite the opposite, try installing wordpress and building a site before you buy anything.

The only program I suggest you purchase, and only if you need to modify, or create pictures, logos ect.. is Adobe PhotoshopEdition
, I think it will be a while before it is replaced!

Multiple domains on 1 hosting account?

Sep 26 2010

Yes, it is available, although many hosts just don’t offer it.  Why?  because they would make less profit.  If you don’t know about this feature you are DEFINATELY paying way too much for your websites.

Did you know you can host multiple domains on 1 hosting account for as little as $3.50 a month?  That’s a huge savings, I mean most companies charge $10-$12 per month per domain.  I can host 5, 6, 7, 8, or whatever amount of  completely different web sites on 1 hosting plan for $3.50 a month!

Adding Amazon “image only” to WordPress

Sep 13 2010

Adding Amazon code to WordPress is quite simple, when you add a product link from Amazon there are 3 choices

  • Text only, just copy the code, then go back to your worpress blog, click the “HTML” tab at the top right of the Post window, and paste, that’s it.
  • Image and text….same as above!
  • Image only…..boooooo…why won’t this work?

Here is the solution

  1. Right click the image, save it to your computer, i recommend having a folder for each of your  blogs, and having a sub folder named, images
  2. Ok, now on the top of your wordpress window, right next to “Upload/Insert” click the box for inserting images, then choose to browse from your computer, and insert the image.
  3. Before you exit that screen you will notice a box that says, image link,
  4. You now need to paste a very particular piece of code there, go back to your amazon screen, and click on the product you are using, go to it’s “landing page”, (the place you are taking when you click on it),  on the top left, you will see a small stripe that says, “link to this page”, get the code for text and image, and copy just the part that contain the address, from “HTTP, until the 2nd quotation mark, here is an example.

it may look something like this, do not include the quotation marks!

Trouble shooting,

sometimes you need to go back into the post, single click the image, then go up top to the “insert link button, and re-paste this piece of code.  Not sure why, might be a glitch, but once you get it working once, it will always work.

Creating a blog

Sep 08 2010

Hello again, this is the 2nd installment on a 3 part series of creating a blog.

In this article I will show you how to create your own blog with your own distinct domain name.

Realistically, you will need about $100 a year to purchase the domain, and cover the hosting fees, I can actually save you some money on this using my referral link through Yahoo.  I have a relationship with Yahoo small business, I send them customers, in turn they offer my customers a discount, why?….because there are literally hundreds of companies you can buy your website through, I am doing them a favor by steering you towards them, why do I steer my readers toward Yahoo?

BECAUSE, I feel they offer the BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE, and the EASIEST blog building interface.  They offer automatic WordPress Blogs, meaning they install the software right on the domain for you!

I will provide you with links that will open in a different window so that you may reference the instructions at any time!

Step 1

  • Decide on a domain name

You can do this using Yahoo’s domain checking tool located here Domain Name Tool If you click sign up now you can access the tool,  your not committed to anything until you decide!

  • Purchase a domain, and hosting

Once you find a domain that you like it’s time to purchase the domain, and a simple hosting plan.

Again, if this is your first Blog, I’d recommend Yahoo due to many reasons, one of which being auto WordPress installation, this way you don’t really need to know ANYTHING about HTML, programming, etc.  If you follow this link you can save 35% from your first site! Yahoo! Web Hosting – Save 35% on your first 3-months of hosting service

Ok, once your purchase is complete, and your domain is approved it’s time to get started!

Your going to see a screen like this….

  1. Now, click on the link on your screen that says “Web Hosting Control Panel”

Next you will see this screen..

     2.   Ok, great! Click on “Manage” you will see a screen that looks like the example below..almost done!

        3.  You guessed it!  Click your Blog manager, you will be clicking this a lot in the future…….hopefully!  andyou will arrive at a scree that will ask you if you would like to activate WordPress.  At this point, activate WordPress.

WordPress will ask you for a user name and password, andan e-mail, write them down, they are totally know, and can b whatever you want.  That’s it, you can now sign into your Wordpress account!

I will be teaching you wordpres basics very soon, look for my post, “Getting started with WordPress”

Have any questions or concerns, drop me a comment!

Have a great day!

How can I make a blog?

Sep 07 2010

Every time I tell a friend that I enjoy blogging they shoot me a puzzled look, and think that it is some complicated technique, and that I know a lot about computers.

NOT TRUE

Creating a blog is simple

In this post i will teach you

  1. The difference between a free website, and owning your own domain
  2. How to choose, and acquire a domain name
  3. Where and how to get your site hosted(where the data will be stored so that you can publish content onto your domain name)
  4. The major differences between WordPress and Blogger

Depending on your needs you may choose to create a free website with a “second level domain”, or a premium website which you “own”, and have a custom domain name.

If you don’t know what a “second level domain” is, here is a quick explanation:

Let’s assume I wanted to create this site, if i used a free blog service like Blogger for example, I would have to include their prefix in my domain name, for example this would be, www.bloggsense.blogspot.com, on the other hand…

if your interested in owning your own unique domain name you will need to purchase the domain, and also the hosting.

  • you don’t need to purchase the domain and the hosting from the same vendor, for example you can buy a domain from godaddy, and host it through yahoo, but in order to keep thinks simple i would suggest one-stop shopping

This was very confusing for me at first, I am going to show you the EXACT way to do this, I’ll make links open in a different window so that you will be able to reference my instructions.

To try to make things more readable, I’ll start a new post “creating a blog”

What is a Blog?

Sep 06 2010

Blogs

have become much more than standard weblogs in the past 10 years.

Nowadays, due to the power, ease, and convenience of blogging software; blogs are taking over, and sometimes you can’t even recognize them!

A blog can be many things:

  1. standard weblog
  2. informational site
  3. a place to display your art
  4. a place to showcase your music
  5. An online representation of your business
  6. An online store
  7. Anything possible!

Due to the popularity of blogging software, most notably, WordPress(this site is a Wordpress site), and Blogger(owned by google), blogs are becoming much easier to create, maintain, and change to a users liking.

  • give you tips about blogging
  • teach you how to create, and tweak a blog
  • show you where to find information
  • teach you how to make money(monetize) with a blog, if you so desire.
